Max Verstappen is the only person to have ever won back-to-back Mexican Grand Prix races, and the Red Bull driver will be hoping to repeat the feat for a second time.
The Dutchman, who has already won this year’s F1 World Championship, has previously won the 2017, 2018 and 2021 editions of the Mexican Grand Prix. Although British driver Jim Clark won the 1962, 1963 and 1967 races, the 1962 Grand Prix was a non-championship event and Clark shared the drive with Trevor Taylor.
As a result, Verstappen is the only driver to have won back-to-back championship Grand Prix races at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez and also the only driver to have won the race three times. Rival Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, won the race in 2016 and 2019 after the venue returned to the F1 calendar in 2015 after a 23-year absence.
And Verstappen could also break the record for the highest number of race wins in a single season, having equalled Michael Schumacher and Sebastien Vettel’s record of 13 with his victory in the United States Grand Prix.

However, Verstappen has played down the achievement, stating: “I’ve said before that we are also doing more races a year. So they are not always justifiable.
“I mean, I think, yeah, we are having an amazing season, but of course when you have a great car, you can win a lot of races.
“But of course I’m proud of winning a lot of races, but I don’t really look at these kinds of stats. I’m just happy winning races.”

And Verstappen is already looking forward to next season, where he is hoping to win a third F1 world title. “It’s not about what’s left to prove, it’s more about learning more from the car, what we can apply to next year,” he said.
“Of course, we’ll try to win [the last three races], but that naturally comes if the car is in a good state, a good window, that’s what we always try to achieve. Luckily it was again good enough in Austin but here we have to work from zero because it’s a completely new car. That’s the same for everyone but I’m looking forward to it.”
