Silverstone will deploy 12,000 ‘spies’ in an attempt to protect this weekend’s British Grand Prix from Just Stop Oil saboteurs.
The circuit’s managing director Stuart Pringle has warned campaigners they are risking their lives if they trespass on to the 3.66-mile track, as they did last year.
He told Mail Sport: ‘It’s one thing protesting at a flower show or cricket match, but quite another when cars are travelling at 200mph.
My message is clear, ‘Don’t risk your life’.
Silverstone are putting plans in place to prevent Just Stop Oil from sabotaging the Grand Prix
‘There are 12,000 working personnel in all, and they will be briefed to be super vigilant. I urge fans, as well as staff, to act as our eyes and ears.’
Meanwhile, the British Grand Prix looks set to remain at Silverstone for most of, if not all, the decade.
F1 boss Stefano Domenicali and the circuit’s owners, the British Racing Drivers’ Club, are both committed to agreeing an extension.
