Sebastian Vettel, who currently races for Aston Martin, spoke glowingly about the influence that F1 legend Michael Schumacher had on his own successful career. The German recalled his memories of his idol in the eagerly-anticipated Netflix documentary delving into his personal life.
Schumacher is a legend on the F1 track and goes down as one of the greatest sportsmen ever after winning a staggering seven-world titles, which was only recently matched by Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton.
But a devastating incident off the track left everyone shaken. In December 2013, Schumacher hit his head on a rock while skiing off-piste in Meribel, France.
He was air-lifted to a hospital in Grenoble, and after undergoing two surgeries was placed in a medically induced coma for six months to help reduce the swelling of his brain.
Schumacher was eventually moved to another hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland after coming out of his coma in 2014 and after 250 days was allowed to return to his Lake Geneva home.

Updates have still been few and far between, with his family keeping details of his condition extremely private.
And with Netflix preparing to release a documentary on his life, on September 15 – coinciding with his entry into F1 30 years ago – glimpses from the upcoming sports film have been released.
And Vettel, who often shows his support for Schumacher’s son Mick – a rookie in F1 currently with Haas – has paid a passionate tribute to his hero.

“The sport fascinates me and I know other racing drivers but there was nobody like him.”
The upcoming film has been produced in co-operation with Schumacher’s family using private family archives, F1 archive footage and interviews from the past and present.

Meanwhile, Vettel is gearing up for the Italian Grand Prix this Sunday.
The German currently sits 12th in the F1 standings ahead of the Monza race – the 14th meeting out of 22 on the calendar.
