Sebastian Vettel spotted at Japanese GP making peculiar changes to iconic track
Lewis Hamilton commits to Mercedes until 2025
F1 icon Sebastian Vettel has been spotted at the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix, making some interesting changes to the iconic Suzuka track before the likes of Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton take to the grid. The four-time world champion retired from the sport at the end of last season, but has recently been seen in Japan making big alterations.
Vettel has been installing beehives and painting the kerbs black and yellow at Turn 2, as part of his ongoing attempts to highlight environmental and wildlife issues – with large bees’ population declining partially due to climate change.
Vettel is a passionate environmentalist and has led campaigns to raise awareness over climate change and the impact that humans are having, with his latest initiative set to be displayed at the Japanese GP this weekend. The German former driver explained the project on social media, with his hands covered in paint suggesting that he helped paint the kerbs himself at the track.
“Hello everyone and Konichiwa from Japan,” Vettel said on Instagram. “I am very, very excited because we are launching a new project. The project is called ‘Buzzin Corner’ as you can see on the racetrack, Turn 2 to be precise in Suzuka, my favourite track.

JUST IN Fernando Alonso warns Sebastian Vettel after teasing sensational F1 comeback[REACTION]
“There is one special thing about this corner this weekend that we are going to show you. You can see down here the kerbs are painted yellow and black. That’s unique because all the other kerbs are painted in white and red.
“It’s very different and the reason for that is that at ‘Buzzin Corner’ we are racing for biodiversity. With this project I want to create awareness around the importance and the subject of biodiversity.

“Now I will probably get to explain what exactly I mean a little bit later on, but just to show you what I mean with what we have been doing – the kerbs are yellow and black and you might be wondering why that is because of biodiversity?
“Well we all know one insect that is very famous, that is the bee, and the bee is yellow and black – the perfect ambassador for us and around this project and idea to highlight the importance of biodiversity. Because it stands not just for the bee, but for all the insects and we have used the bee as our ambassador. She will help us stress this very powerful message.”
Vettel also teased that the drivers will be taking part in an activity with the beehives ahead of Sunday’s race, which have been set up near the inside of Turn 2 as Vettel and his team create a “little village” for the bees similar to a Japanese shrine that will be featured more throughout the weekend.
