Red Bull team advisor, Helmut Marko, has claimed that Lewis Hamilton should be suspended for one race after his crash with Max Verstappen on the opening lap of the British Grand Prix.

The pair collided after a ferocious opening exchange at Silverstone, coming wheel-to-wheel at Copse corner to send Verstappen careering into the tirewall at high speed.

Although severely winded, the Dutchman walked away from the incident broadly unscathed despite being whisked off to the medical centre as a precaution.

The Red Bull hierarchy were less than happy with Hamilton’s role in the crash, with Marko saying: “I don’t know what the maximum penalty would be.

“But such dangerous and reckless behavior should be punished with a ban or something.

“I can only comment on the TV pictures and they were clear. All the repetitions have shown that Hamilton touched Verstappen’s rear wheel with his left front wheel and pushed him off the track.

“I don’t know if it was a miscalculation or whatever that behavior was. The consequences are unbelievable. It’s dangerous to the public, I would say.

“If a competitor hits our rear wheel heavily with his front wheel, it is no longer a racing accident in the fastest corner of the circuit. Then it is negligent and even dangerous behavior.”
