Pierre Gasly wants F1 rival ‘banned’ at Canadian Grand Prix after incident
Italian Grand Prix: Pierre Gasly reacts to winning his first title
Pierre Gasly has urged FIA bosses to ban an F1 rival after a close shave at the Canadian Grand Prix. Gasly urged race stewards to investigate Carlos Sainz after the Ferrari star impeded him at the final chicane.
Gasly was on a quick lap while Sainz was driving slowly in the middle of the road at the final corner. The former race winner was forced to take the escape road and abort his flying lap.
The incident cost Gasly a chance to improve his run and he was knocked out of the first session. Moments later, Gasly called out Sainz’s move and demanded action be taken.
He shouted: “Should be banned for such a thing! I’m coming at 300(kph)!” Sainz also appeared to stall the progress of Kevin Magnussen but the Dane managed to improve to secure a spot in Q2.

Alpine team boss Otmar Szafnauer was left furious by the incident and stressed his driver would have had the pace to secure a slot in Q2 without the intrusion. He even predicted Gasly could have finished towards the sharp end if his lap was completed.
Szafnauer told Sky Sports F1: “It’s ridiculous, in a word. Terrible. I think Pierre would have been P6, and now he’s out in Q1.” Sainz was investigated for a similar issue in FP3 after Alex Albon complained the Spaniafrd was impeding him.
However, he dodged a penalty after race officials looked at the incident ahead of qualifying. Sky Sports commentator Martin Brundle blasted the move as he called out Ferrari bosses for not getting their man out of the way.
