Mick Schumacher got behind the wheel of dad Michael’s 2003 title-winning Ferrari before a massive auction in November. The Haas star took to Ferrari’s own Fiorano test track before the car is put under the hammer.

The 24-year-old said: “It’s obviously impressive to be able to drive this car, I mean not only the chassis but in general. It’s one of the most successful years. I’m getting onto a streak now after (driving) 2002, 2003 today, 2004, a few still to go but I’m getting there.

“Obviously every time it is a pleasure for me and for my love to this sport to be able to drive these cars.” Schumacher secured five wins in chassis 229 with victories in Spain, Austria, Canada, Italy and the United States.

The chassis also secured three pole positions and three fastest laps while driven by the German almost 20 years ago. This particular car also secured two further podium finishes at the Monaco and French Grand Prix.

Schumacher went on to secure his sixth world championship that season, beating Juan Manuel Fangio’s 46-year record. The Scuderia also achieved its fifth consecutive constructor’s title with the car that season.

Mick Schumacher added: “It’s super light so it’s really manoeuvrable. It’s a pleasure to drive if you have that V10 in the back screaming around. It’s a real pleasure driving it and it’s super fun.

“I’m kind of sad that I only get to drive it here because I would love to take it out on a big track. But I’ll take it if that’s the only thing I get, any day again.”

RM Sotheby’s, who are conducting the auction, said the car boasts one of the final V-10 engines ever used in F1. They advertise the car as being able to produce 930bhp and a staggering 19,000 rpm.

They added: “This Formula One car represents the zenith of one of the most naturally gifted drivers in motorsport. Winning his sixth World Championship title, before his seventh and final championship the following year, this was truly Schumacher at his peak.

“Offered here in fully track-ready condition, this is undoubtedly one of the most exciting Formula One propositions to ever reach the open market. The car will be offered as a single lot offering within Sotheby’s Luxury Week sale on 9 November.”
