Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has given an emphatic response regarding F1’s greatest ever driver. He gave his opinion on the sport’s ‘GOAT’ debate after Lewis Hamilton reached another milestone by landing his 100th ever race win.

The seven-time world champion recorded a century of wins at last weekend’s Russian Grand Prix, becoming the first ever F1 driver to do so.

Hamilton capitalised on Lando Norris’ late heartache in Sochi to race to victory, after the McLaren driver span off the track with the sudden downpour causing havoc for everyone.

Hamilton has made plenty of history since his first ever world title triumph back in 2008, emulating and surpassing the heroics of legendary German driver Michael Schumacher.

He sits level on seven world titles with Schumacher, but the Brit holds the record for the most wins (100), pole positions (101) and podium finishes (176) within the sport.

He is now eyeing an unprecedented eighth world title at the end of the season, but has his work cut out against fierce Red Bull rival Max Verstappen.

And after moving into the triple-figure mark for race wins, Mercedes boss Wolff was unequivocal when discussing the sport’s greatest ever driver.

“It’s one of these things, he wins the 100th race and it’s in the news today and tomorrow, and then the world is moving on,” Wolff said, as per Racer.

“The truth is that when we look back in many years, it’s very special to have been part of that journey and witness of this journey, because he is the all-time record holder.

“I think these records speak for themselves. He’s just the best that there has ever been.”

Wolff has overseen seven-straight world championship triumphs at Mercedes, having helped guide Hamilton to six of these.

Hamilton was made to work hard for his history-making 100th race win, having started fourth on the grid following a pretty disastrous Russian Grand Prix qualifying.

But he made his move on the Sochi track before having to remain patient behind Norris as he eyed a dramatic victory.

Norris was clinging onto the lead with just laps remaining but the rain soon started causing havoc, with plenty of drivers losing grip.

Young McLaren star Norris decided to weather the storm and stay out on track, but Hamilton and his Mercedes team opted to pit, which paid dividends as the race leader eventually slid off track, allowing his compatriot to storm past and take victory.

Hamilton will now be eyeing his 101st race triumph when the F1 travelling circuit heads to Turkey this coming weekend.

Hamilton currently sits a slender two points ahead of Red Bull’s Verstappen in the title race with just seven races remaining on the 2021 calendar.

The title race has enthralled fans throughout, and you can expect more of the same come this weekend in Istanbul.
