Former F1 driver Damon Hill has defended Max Verstappen’s explicit outburst during the press conference ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, admitting “I’ve sat there being asked the same questions over and over” during his career as a driver.
On Thursday ahead of the race, the Red Bull driver refused to answer any more questions about his British Grand Prix crash with Lewis Hamilton while sat alongside the Mercedes driver in the meeting.
“Can we already stop this,” Verstappen fumed. “We have already had so many f**king questions about this. It is ridiculous, honestly.
“All Thursday we have been answering these stupid questions. Can we stop talking about this, please?
“We are racers, we will race and of course we will race hard and fair.”
The seven-time world champion was then asked if he had anything to add on the matter but silently shook his head.

Hamilton was trailing Verstappen in the driver standings when the two had a huge shunt coming into Copse Corner at Silverstone, with the Dutchman crashing hard into the barriers.
The 36-year-old was handed a 10-second time penalty for his part in the incident but managed to go on and win the race, cutting the deficit to eight points between the pair.
But emotions boiled over ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, and the 1996 world champion said he does feel for the 23-year-old and understands how that can manifest.
“I have some sympathy for him,” said Hill, speaking on the F1 Nation podcast.
“I have sat there being asked the same question over and over again, and of course he’s had two weeks of it, and a lot on social media of course.

“So you want to start a new chapter when you come into a new race weekend, and the first question you get is about a race that happened two weeks ago.”
Hungary produced a fascinating race, in which the Alpine of Esteban Ocon took the win, after a chaotic Grand Prix.
Hamilton meanwhile fought back to take third place on track, but second overall as Sebastian Vettel was disqualified.
“And now we have a new story, we have a new story – we have several. We have quite a few,” added Hill.
“It was a fantastic F1 weekend, that just produced all the things that F1 can do, and it does, on a regular basis, when I say regular I mean at least once a year, it’ll have a crazy race when all sorts of extraordinary things happen.
“Hungary does that, it has those moments.”
