Max Verstappen told he’s wrong after two moans about Lewis Hamilton
Hamilton opens up on plans to remain in F1 ahead of 2023 season
F1 fans feel Max Verstappen was wrong after the reigning champion targeted Lewis Hamilton at the Australian Grand Prix. The Dutchman accused Hamilton of not following F1 rules after the Mercedes star overtook him on lap one.
The seven-time champion dived down the inside at the apex of turn three with the two making slight contact. The 38-year-old then got his elbows out to force Verstappen wide to push his former title rival down to third.
Verstappen hit back at the move over team radio, moaning: “He pushed me off the track! I was ahead at the apex, he pushed me off.” But, a new poll from Express Sport shows F1 viewers are not sold by Verstappen’s verdict.
A massive 72 per cent of 14,009 readers feel Hamilton did not push Verstappen wide at the start. This means only 28 per cent agree with the Red Bull star’s version of events that Hamilton did unfairly squeeze him wide.

After the race, Verstappen doubled down on his views as he accused Hamilton of breaching the regulations. He explained: “From my side, I just tried to avoid contact. It’s quite clear in the rules what you’re allowed to do now on the outside. Clearly, it’s not followed, but that’s okay.
“But we had good pace. We pass them anyway. But it’s something for the next races to take into account.” However, Hamilton’s move didn’t affect the overall result with Verstappen eventually getting through before cruising to victory.
After the race, the British F1 icon defended the move and stressed he had left enough room on the outside of the corner.

He explained: “I thought it was pretty decent – he braked early and I braked late. I was fully up the inside and I think we both left space for each other. I didn’t run him off the road and he didn’t turn in on me, so we didn’t touch and that’s racing.”
But, the move was not the only time Verstappen called out Hamilton in Melbourne. Ahead of the first restart, Verstappen tried to get Hamilton penalised as the Mercedes lost the safety car.
He said: “Mate, this is more than 10 car lengths. Check it!” FIA officials are understood to have looked at the incident but it emerged no further action was required.
