Max Verstappen shows colours with treatment of Red Bull engineers at Hungary GP
Max Verstappen signs £200m deal with Red Bull in 2022
Reigning world champion Max Verstappen has shown his true colours by showing his gratitude to his Red Bull engineers at this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix. The two-time world champion looks certain to bank a third title and sits 99 points clear of team-mate Sergio Perez in the Drivers’ Championship.
Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reported before the start of practice in Hungary that the Dutchman planned on repeating a mark of appreciation for his team. They report that last year the 25-year-old took around 30 Red Bull employees out to dinner.
De Telegraaf states that the team’s leader is set to repeat the mark of gratitude and will treat his engineers to another night out near the country’s capital of Budapest. This season Verstappen is in an even stronger position in the Drivers’ Championship than last year, having won all but two races so far.
Despite their dominance, Verstappen has shown his demanding side to keep Red Bull ahead of their rivals on the track. After taking another impressive victory at the British Grand Prix, the Dutchman said Red Bull needed to improve in almost all areas.
The comment caused Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton to laugh, but Verstappen quipped that he was “not kidding”. Despite Red Bull already looking ahead to next season’s car, Verstappen was asked what he wanted for a planned upgrade to this season’s car.
He replied: “Drag, low speed, medium speed, high speed, DRS effect, tyre wear all of these areas. Braking performance. I’m not kidding.”

McLaren showed improved speed at the British Grand Prix and Verstappen admitted that he was shocked by their upgrade. The Red Bull engineers might deserve a treat from their Dutch star if they have delivered the upgrade he desires at this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix.
“In Hungary the circuit is completely different,” added Verstappen ahead of this weekend’s grand prix. “There we will put some upgrades on the car and hopefully they will all work well.”
