Max Verstappen makes personal appeal to Ferrari over Michael Schumacher
Max Verstappen wins third consecutive Formula One world championship
Max Verstappen has made a personal appeal to Ferrari president John Elkann because the Red Bull ace wants to buy the car that Michael Schumacher won the last of his world championships in. Schumacher is level with Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton at the top of the all-time F1 title standings, with the duo both winning the championship on seven occasions.
“I would like to have in my garage all the Red Bull cars with which I have won an F1 world championship, in addition to Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari F2004,” Verstappen told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “It is an incredible car. But I don’t know how I would buy it. This is an appeal to John Elkann – I hope he reads this interview and maybe calls me.”
Schumacher won his first world title with Benetton in 1994 before backing that up with his second victory the following season. After falling down the pecking order at the end of the 1990s, the German became the dominant force in the sport for the first five years of the current century as he won five titles in a row between 2000 and 2004.
The blockbuster star initially retired from F1 at the end of the 2006 season but returned to the sport to drive for Mercedes in 2010. He then called time on his racing career for a second time in 2012 and was replaced by current Silver Arrows ace Lewis Hamilton. The following year, however, Schumacher was involved in a horrendous skiing accident and suffered a severe brain injury. He hasn’t been seen in public since.

Hamilton went on to dominate F1 for the best part of a decade after taking Schumacher’s Mercedes seat as he won six titles between 2014 and 2020 to add to his first title with McLaren in 2008.
But Verstappen is now the top dog on the track and secured his third consecutive world title earlier this month after finishing second in the Sprint race in Japan ahead of the Grand Prix.

And discussing his latest title, Verstappen explained: “The first one was the most emotional – that’s when your dreams are fulfilled. This has been my best year. Sometimes I am not happy with the performance or how the weekend was going but I always try to be perfect. I always try to be better every race weekend I go to.
“I analyse my performance race after race and the same this year. That’s why I think this year performance-wise is definitely the best one. The middle one is now the middle one.”
