Max Verstappen calls reporter ‘dirty man’ after trophy destroyed for second time
Formula One preview: A lap of the Australian Grand Prix
Formula 1 star Max Verstappen had an eventful end to another successful weekend. The Dutch driver saw yet another trophy destroyed following his latest victory at the Belgian Grand Prix before jokingly calling a reporter a “dirty man” after giving an amusing answer in his press conference.
Verstappen’s win at Spa-Francorchamps in Stavelot saw the Red Bull team, including teammate Sergio Perez who finished second, celebrate following a remarkable season. The 25-year-old has now managed an incredible eight consecutive wins this season, but only has six trophies to show for his efforts.
The latest Grand Prix win sets Verstappen on course to claim a third consecutive World Championship. The feat has only been achieved by four drivers since 1950. This includes Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, Michael Schumacher and Juan Manuel Fangio.
During the celebrations the Red Bull team sprayed champagne, seeing staff run away to avoid getting wet. In the commotion, Red Bull’s Helmut Marko can be seen trying to protect the trophies but was unable to keep Verstappen’s safe.
Not again…
After witnessing his trophy getting damaged Verstappen can be heard shouting: “It’s broken again! The trophy is broken again!”
This isn’t the first time the F1 star has seen a trophy damaged this season. Following the Dutchman’s Hungarian Grand Prix win Lando Norris toppled over the porcelain prize in an attempt to open his bottle of champagne on the podium steps, which he has since apologised for.
Incredibly, that wasn’t the most uncomfortable part of Verstappen’s day. Moments after winning the race the two-time F1 World Champion attended the post-race press conference and was asked how he would be spending his time off.

“A lot of cardio and a lot of wrist training,” Verstappen replied with a straight face. The comment lead to Ferrari’s Charles LeClerc, who finished in third, and Sergio Perez breaking out into laughter.
Verstappen quickly made sure his response wasn’t taken out of context, saying: “And not what you think it is, you’re a dirty man.” He then made a gesture with his hand suggesting that he will enjoy a drink during the extended break from racing.
F1 drivers will now enjoy a four-week break. The next race will see Verstappen back on home soil at the Dutch Grand Prix taking place on Aug. 27.
