Martin Brundle snubbed twice by Serena Williams during grid walk in US

F1 commentator Martin Brundle was snubbed twice by Serena Williams prior to the US Grand Prix.

Ahead of his first pre-race grid walk in two years, which he is renowned for, Brundle would have been hoping to have grabbed a word with some of the biggest names in the sporting and celebrity sphere.

Brundle soon spotted tennis legend Williams and tried to grab a moment of her time. However, it didn’t quite go as he had planned.

He first spotted her while she was chatting with Rory McIlroy but was unable to get her attention, before wandering back down the track to try and speak to her again.

However, she couldn't be heard saying anything and Brundle was turned away by the 23-time Grand Slam champion's entourage.

“Let’s wander down here, we’ve got (golfer) Rory McIlroy and (tennis star) Serena Williams,” Brundle was heard saying on Sky Sports F1.

“Venus (Williams) wasn’t that keen to talk to me five years ago, I don’t know if I’ll get a double fault or an ace.”

He waited for her to finish his conversation, before asking: “Serena, may I have a chat?”, before asking again: “Serena, are you good for a chat? Martin Brundle, British TV.”

However, the 40-year-old was unable to speak and appeared to gesture that she had somewhere else to be.

Following the unsuccessful interview attempt, the red-faced analyst added: “It's a double fault, it's a double fault.”

Brundle would then try his luck with another superstar, but it didn’t go much better with award-winning rapper Meghan Thee Stallion.

He approached the 25-year-old while she walked down the track and proceeded to say: “Megan, Martin Brundle from British television, how are you? Megan Thee Stallion, you’re a freestyle rapper.”

The musician’s bodyguards were not keen on stopping for a chat with Brundle, but she did however answer one of questions, albeit a strange one.

“You’re a freestyle rapper, have you got any rap for us today on Formula One?”

She laughed before answering: “I have no rap today, I’m sorry.”

Keen to continue the conversation, Brundle asked: “Who are you supporting in the race?”

But before she could answer, another member of her entourage refused to let him ask any more questions.

Brundle snapped: “I can do that, because I did," before hilariously reflecting on the awkward exchange.

“OK, she seemed very happy to talk, didn’t she? That’s very nice of her and I appreciate that.”

Max Verstappen triumphed in Austin and extended his championship lead to 12 points over Lewis Hamilton, who finished second.
