Lewis Hamilton sports new hairstyle which makes him look like rap icon Coolio

Lewis Hamilton has debuted a new hairstyle on his Instagram story – just hours before he arrives at the Styrian Grand Prix for Friday's practice session.

Hamilton fell further behind his young rival Max Verstappen in the Driver's World Championships – at the French Grand Prix near Marseille last weekend – after the Red Bull driver claimed his third victory of the season, following triumphs in Monaco and Italy.

The Brit, who has pulled his braided hair back into a ponytail for the better part of a year, showed off a new style on Friday morning.

Hamilton had pulled his hair back into two ponytails, reminiscent of American 90s rapper Coolio.

Coolio – real name Artis Leon Ivey Jr. – shot to fame in the mid-90s with his R&B hit 'Gangsta's Paradise', however, it was his unique look that garnered as much attention.

Coolio's dreadlocks became synonymous with rapper, and during the end of his singing career, he would often pull them back into two separate ponytails – much like Hamilton.

The 36-year-old shared two images of his new trim – the first one was captioned: "Good morning, hope you have a great day," and the second: "I love purple."

He accompanied the hair with an oversized purple shirt and purple shorts.
