Lewis Hamilton receives message from future teammate George Russell after Brazilian GP win

Lewis Hamilton received a congratulatory message from George Russell following his superb win at the Brazilian Grand Prix. The seven-time F1 champion’s future Mercedes teammate took to social media to praise his remarkable performance, which saw him overcome several obstacles to win his 101st Grand Prix.

The win was crucial for Hamilton keeping alive his hopes of winning a record eighth world title, as he reduced the gap in the driver’s standings to leader Max Verstappen to 14 points.

Russell, 23, took to Instagram and sent a message to the Silver Arrows driver, which read: “Congrats @LewisHamilton, you’re an absolute beast!”

The Williams racer finished 13th at the Interlagos circuit and has just three races left with his current team before joining the constructors’ champions next season.

Hamilton, 36, was ecstatic with his win last night, one in which he described the weekend as one of the hardest he has ever faced.

Following the race, the motorsport legend took to Instagram and wrote: “YOU CAN DO ANYTHING YOU PUT YOUR MIND TO! This weekend is proof.

“We fought this battle on the track and I am so proud of @mercedesamgf1 and my incredible teammate @valtteribottas who I couldn’t do this without.

“EU AMO BRASIL. Because of you I had the wind at my back this race, I can feel your energy and it makes all the difference.

“It’s not easy starting with a 25 place penalty, but ANYTHING is possible when you put your mind to it. We keep fighting, keep pushing. SEE YOU NEXT WEEK.”

Hamilton had a rough ride in Sao Paulo, which started strongly by qualifying fastest ahead of the Sprint qualifying race, in front of an ecstatic crowd.

But things quickly changed as an FIA document revealed Hamilton had been summoned to the stewards regarding the rear wing on the Mercedes.

It all came after Red Bull lodged a complaint to the FIA about the rear on the Mercedes, with the FIA then impounding Hamilton’s wing overnight regarding his drag reduction system (DRS).

The rear wing was found to have breached F1’s technical regulations and was deemed illegal and Hamilton was thrown out of qualifying.

Starting the sprint from P20, Hamilton carved his way through 15 cars in 24 laps, qualifying P5 for Sunday’s event, but due to a new engine being placed in his car, he was handed a five-place grid penalty, meaning he began the race in 10th.

The Brit had a dream start, as he made his way up into the 5th after just two laps, before teammate Valtteri Bottas let him through to go up into fourth.

He soon overtook Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz before hunting down Sergio Perez in an entertaining duel, before pouncing on rival and race leader Verstappen on lap 48, heading towards Turn 4.

With Hamilton on the outside, Verstappen defended hard into the corner, leading the seven-time world champion bumping across the run-off area.

But Hamilton would not be denied as he pulled off a swift move round the outside of the Dutchman on lap 59, before storming to yet another remarkable victory.
