Lewis Hamilton nearly ‘puked’ thanks to Toto Wolff as Max Verstappen warned

Lewis Hamilton shows off his impressive surfing skills

Lewis Hamilton will be desperately hoping for Mercedes to keep improving when Formula One returns after the summer break, with the Silver Arrows still miles away from Red Bull in terms of outright pace. There will also be the small matter of finalising his proposed new deal with the German outfit, which has been in the works for some time but is yet to be officially signed by the 38-year-old.

Max Verstappen’s unwavering dominance with Red Bull has made it difficult for Mercedes to stomach no longer being the team to beat, with Hamilton having failed to win a single race since doing so in Saudi Arabia two years ago. The Brit will have plenty of time to ponder his long-term future at Mercedes during the summer break as he weighs up whether or not to extend his association with the team beyond a decade.

Hamilton has performed relatively well over the course of this season and currently sits ahead of George Russell in the Drivers’ Championship standings despite finishing behind his team-mate last time around. It certainly makes sense that he would want to consider all options available to him, with speculation linking him with Ferrari refusing to go away, but he is still widely expected to put pen to paper at Mercedes regardless of any potential interest from elsewhere.

Hamilton nearly ‘puked’ after Wolff request

Toto Wolff has revealed that Lewis Hamilton once nearly ‘puked’ at the idea of playing an iconic AC/DC track to pump up the Mercedes team during a Grand Prix weekend.

“I think we have a similar music taste,” said Wolff in an interview with the BBC.

“Obviously, his is much more sophisticated, but many years ago I said to him: ‘What would you think if we were to play AC/DC’s Thunderstruck in the garage before going out with the cars, to have all the mechanics listen to this?’

“And he said: ‘It would make me puke!’”
