Lewis Hamilton F1 prediction made as George Russell shares ‘wrinkles’ joke

Lewis Hamilton shows off his impressive surfing skills

Lewis Hamilton could remain in F1 for “many years” to come as George Russell shared a joke about his Mercedes team-mate. The Mercedes star laughed that Hamilton had no wrinkles despite being one of the oldest drivers on the grid.

The former Williams star said Hamilton would likely be around for “years to come” despite the seven-time champion not yet signing a new agreement. Russell said: “You’ve only got to look at his skin – he looks like a 25-year-old! I think I’ve got a few more wrinkles than he has.

“I think there’s many years left in Lewis and I guess he’s at a stage now in his career that as long as he keeps on enjoying racing and he sees a chance to win, then why wouldn’t you continue? We both believe in this team. He’s still performing at a really strong level and we’re pushing one another. And it’s an exciting time for the sport, so he’ll be here for years to come.”

Hamilton and Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff were expected to sit down for talks on the Monday after the Spanish Grand Prix. However, Hamilton admitted the pair did not finalise the deal after Barcelona despite previously suggesting a new deal could soon be wrapped up.

Hamilton provided the rare update on his contract situation ahead of this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix. He said: “We never hooked up. No, we never hooked up.

“No, we never had pizza. I’ve seen Toto and we talked several times. We have a great relationship so there is nothing else to say at the moment.” Hamilton has continued to pledge his allegiance to the Silver Arrows despite faking to finalise a deal.

He has also stressed Mercedes lack of pace compared to Red Bull would have no bearing on whether he remained at the outfit.

Ferrari had reportedly been set to offer £140million to secure the services of the former champion but both parties have denied any move. Wolff is also adamant Hamilton will stay at the squad, recently admitting the final pieces were being put into place.

Speaking in Barcelona, he said: “We just need time to sit over a coffee. That’s going to take half an hour.”
