Lewis Hamilton won the British Grand Prix despite colliding with Max Verstappen and receiving a 10-second time penalty for his ambitious move at Copse. The Briton went on to catch and pass Charles Leclerc to leave the fans delighted.
Hamilton cut Verstappen’s lead in the championship to just eight points as a result.
Martin Brundle believes Red Bull have data which shows the 36-year-old was never going to make the corner and could use it to lodge an appeal.
It remains to be seen but they could argue that the penalty handed down to Hamilton by the stewards was not severe enough.

“I am told by Red Bull there is data to prove Lewis was significantly faster into Copse than at any other time and he would not have made the corner without running wide, and inevitably contacting Max,” wrote Brundle in his post-race column for Sky Sports.
“Presumably, that will be made publicly available and if Red Bull feel they have ‘new evidence’ they may well make an appeal to the FIA as to their perceived degree of fault and leniency regarding Hamilton.”
Brundle was also not happy about the way Christian Horner and Toto Wolff conducted themselves in the immediate aftermath of the incident.

Mercedes admit red flag ‘saved Lewis Hamilton’s race’ crash
“It was a little uncomfortable hearing the Red Bull and Mercedes team managers and team principals endeavouring to influence the situation by lobbying the race director, but that seems to be the communication system in place and which we are broadcasting for the first time this season,” Brundle added.
“Michael Masi quite rightly pointed them towards the stewards, and I can imagine a future revision on this process.”
Hamilton’s father Anthony believes the crash was simply a racing incident and Red Bull must now move on.
He said: “At the end of the day, it’s a racing incident and 99 times out of 100 it’s a race incident.
“What do you want then? Drivers lining up neatly on the straight and then taking it easy. This is a race.”
F1 returns with the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday, August 1 as Hamilton looks to leapfrog Verstappen in the championship.
Mercedes will also look to overtake Red Bull in the Constructors’ Championship in Budapest.
