The F1 landscape has been dominated by the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel over the last 14 years, but there are plenty of other exciting talents to keep an eye on – one of whom is Lance Stroll. The Canadian entered the sport at the age of just 18 back in 2017 and has secured three podium place finishes in his career so far.
The 24-year-old has previously driven for Williams before switching to Racing Point, who began racing under the name Aston Martin in 2021. Bursting onto the scene as a fresh-faced teen, he made history by becoming the youngest ever F1 rookie to finish a Grand Prix race on the podium, finishing third in Azerbaijan in 2017.
Born in Montreal, Stroll has dual Canadian and Belgian nationality. He is the son of successful businessman Lawrence Stroll, who is part-owner of the Aston Martin F1 team.
A driver’s contract with a team is, of course, confidential information, but Stroll’s contract is believed to be worth in the region of £7m ($8.5m) annually. Overall, Stroll’s net worth sees him valued as the richest F1 driver there is as his father, Lawrence, is worth an eye-watering £2bn ($2.4bn).
The family grew up in Montreal, Quebec, where Lawrence introduced brands including Pierre Cardin and Ralph Lauren to Canadians. He would later bring Ralph Lauren to Europe.
Investing in luxury brands runs in the family for Stroll, who made his millions by selling shareholdings in Tommy Hilfiger and Michael Kors that left him with substantial resources – including pumping money into F1.
When you own a racing car team, it’s easy to hire who you want. And it just so happens with Lance. Stroll has come under criticism in the past, as some fans claimed he only had a seat because his multi-billionaire father owned the team.
In an interview with The Times, Stroll was asked on his thoughts behind racing for his dad and the controversy behind it, revealing: “Everyone has their own opinion, I can’t change that.”
He added: “I come from money, I am not going to deny that. But I believe I won my shot in F1 because I won every championship I have competed in in single-seaters.”
Aside from his final season in the junior ranks, a season spent in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship, there was little about his progression that suggested the Canadian would make it to F1.
But in the 2016 season, Stroll dominated the championship beating drivers of a high calibre including George Russell, Callum Ilott and Anthoine Hubert.
Despite being around for some time now, there is one fact that remains relatively secret about him – and it’s quite a big one. We know the driver as Lance Stroll, but it turns out his real name is actually Lance Strulovitch, which is shortened to Stroll.
With Stroll’s burgeoning F1 career and staggering net worth, he makes for a highly attractive catch. In the past, he has been romantically to designer, TV presenter, and socialite Kimberley Garner. Stroll is now dating Italian model, Sara Pagliaroli.
Stroll has no previous public relationships and Pagliaroli is thought to be his first partner since he has been a driver. The 27-year-old regularly posts updates of herself wearing cute two-pieces and looking glamorous in exotic locations while her racer boyfriend is trotting around the globe in F1.
She even made an appearance at the Bahrain Grand Prix, which cemented her position as the woman in Stroll’s life.
Earlier this month, Stroll detailed his successful battle to be fit for the start of the Formula One season with broken wrists after a cycle accident and said his doctors feared initially he would miss the opening races.
The Canadian finished sixth in Bahrain opener, despite injuries that included also a broken right big toe in the training fall in Spain on February 18.
“My medical team, at first, believed I was not only going to miss testing, but realistically the first few races,” Stroll told followers on Instagram.
