Inside Monaco life that Lando Norris can spend £6m salary on after house move

Swapping Woking for Monaco is a move only a Formula One driver could make, with McLaren star Lando Norris set to be the next driver to live in the Principality.

The 22-year-old announced on Tuesday that work is well underway on his new apartment in Monaco, which he will be living in shortly.

“Say hello to my new home! The place isn't finished yet but I'll be living here in Monaco when I'm not in the factory or at the track next year. Really excited for this next chapter!” Norris tweeted.

Norris was handed a three-year contract in May as a reward for performances that have him sitting fifth in the Drivers’ World Championship.

Here, Daily Star Sport looks at what life will be like for the McLaren man, who takes home a salary of £6million a year…

What can he expect?

For a start Norris will be able to enjoy all £6m of his salary when he makes the move to Monaco.

Foreign nationals living in the Principality are not subject to any personal income tax, investment income tax, capital gains and dividends, as well as no wealth or property tax.

Reigning Formula E champion Nyck De Vries has also been a resident of Monaco and his views on the city-state make it appear Norris will fit right in.

“I think it is a very sporty community. It is very international and very welcoming. Everyone is very open and it is very easy to make contacts and friends,” De Vries exclusively told the Star.

“There are a lot of sportspeople, especially in racing but also cyclists and tennis players. It is just a nice vibe. You have the sea in front of me and then the mountains. I am very happy there at the moment.”

Who else lives there?

Norris will not be short of friends in his new home, with many members of the F1 circus already living in Monaco.

Mercedes superstar Lewis Hamilton is arguably the most famous resident, having moved there in 2012, with title rival Max Verstappen also living in Monaco.

Daniel Ricciardo, Norris’ team-mate at McLaren, will be able to act as tour-guide to the young Brit as he lives in the Principality for most of the year.

Norris will become the final member of the so-called Twitch Quartet to make the move, with Charles Leclerc a Monegasque by birth, Alexander Albon shown to be flying over in the second series of Drive to Survive and George Russell also decamping there soon.

F1 stars of the past have also made Monaco their home, including fellow Brits David Coulthard and Jenson Button.

It is not only F1 drivers who enjoy the jet-set lifestyle, with tennis superstars Novak Djokovic and Caroline Wozniaki also Monaco residents.

How does it compare to Woking?

Norris currently lives near Woking, where the McLaren F1 team’s factory is based, with the town being far from the millionaire’s paradise of Monaco.

Woking is much bigger than Monaco, at 24.54 square miles compared to 0.78 square miles, and has a population nearly double that of the Principality.

The 22-year-old will have to get used to driving on the right-hand side of the road, with Monaco also an hour ahead of England.

The Englishman will have to get used to a much classier type of nightlife when he moves to the playground of the rich and famous, with four casinos among the places he can visit.

Unsurprisingly, Norris will be spending much of his £6m salary, with a pint of beer costing £2.87 more and a pint of milk, a drink the McLaren star is a famous fan of, £1 more expensive.

Life away from F1?

The life of an F1 driver is full-on, so Norris will obviously look to fill his spare time enjoying other activities.

The Englishman is a huge fan of football and will have a Ligue 1 side on his doorstep in AS Monaco, who are seventh in the French top-flight.

He will also be able to moor a boat or a yacht in Monaco’s harbour and he can even take in the Monte-Carlo Masters tennis tournament, part of the ATP World Tour.

Hills surround the Principality, making it perfect for the type of training that Norris will need to do as he aims to become an F1 superstar.
