George Russell says Max Verstappen 'spat his dummy out' following Baku crash

George Russell has hit back at Max Verstappen, saying he ‘spat his dummy out’ following their small collision at the Azerbaijan sprint race.

Verstappen’s Red Bull was left with a hole in its sidepod after making contact with Russell as the Mercedes man overtook him at the start of last Saturdays’ sprint at the Baku street circuit.

The damage did not have much of an effect on the RB19’s performance however and the Dutchman eventually got back past the Brit to finish the race in third, but that was not the end of the matter.

Verstappen angrily confronted Russell in the pit lane immediately after the chequered flag, calling him a ‘****head’ behind his back.

Ahead of this weekend’s Miami Grand Prix, both drivers have attempted to diffuse the matter and are clearly keen to get on with racing, but that didn’t stop Russell from criticising the two-time world champion’s behaviour.

‘It was all a little bit pathetic. I think something you learn as a kid is if you’re going to give something you’ve got to be willing to take it as well,’ the 25-year-old told Sky Sports.

‘He’s had his fair share of giving moves like that and being tough and hard at racing and it’s a little bit poor to see how he sort of spat his dummy out when it was the first time he probably got something back in the same regard.
