F1 LIVE: Hamilton nightmare scenario as Russell comments on Verstappen
Lewis Hamilton previews 2023 Miami Grand Prix
Despite being branded as a ‘boring’ spectacle by Toto Wolff, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix has fuelled numerous storylines within F1. Lewis Hamilton will be hoping that he can bounce back to form in Miami on Sunday, though doubts over his future could grow if the Brit continues to be outperformed by team-mate George Russell.
Hamilton is currently enduring the longest winless run of his career, having not tasted success since his shock defeat to Max Verstappen at Abu Dhabi 2021. Mercedes appear to be in need of a significant revival, though external fears are growing that their resurgence could be spearheaded by Russell.
F1 pundit Peter Windsor was recently asked whether Hamilton will return to title-winning contention or retire as a seven-time champion, to which he said: “I fear the latter. You’re really asking me: ‘Do you think Mercedes can win a World Championship again inside the window of Lewis’s logical career limits?’ And it’s difficult to see that happening, isn’t it? It’s difficult.”
Elsewhere, Russell has sent Verstappen a stern warning after their feud in Baku, though also admitted that he feels ‘a lot has been made’ of their exchange.
