Fomula One fans weren't impressed as Martin Brundle cancelled his grid walk in favour of a crowd walk.

Brundle chatting to the drivers and celebrities ahead of the action on a Sunday is the highlight of the race weekend for a lot of Sky Sports viewers.

But they were denied it before the Belgian Grand Prix as the F1 legend, 64, instead went into the stands to interview some of the spectators in attendance at Spa.

It didn't go down well with some, as one tweeted: "What's more awkward than Martin Brundle talking to celebrities he doesn't know? Martin Brundle talking to fans who don't speak English."

Another echoed: "Martin Brundle doing a crowd walk instead of a grid walk is even more painfully awkward than usual." A third argued: "Worst grid walk ever!"

"Never do that again Martin," pleaded a fourth, while a fifth wrote: "This was so bloody cringe. How much your viewership just drop in last 10 minutes @SkySportsF1?"

A sixth argued: "Martin needs to be on the grid. Period. Rubbish." And a seventh similarly posted: "This has been horrendous! Stick to the grid walk, Martin!"

Others felt it was a wholesome change to Brundle struggling to get A-listers to play ball, though, such as when he clashed with Cara Delevingne at Silverstone earlier this month.

One responded: "Love this! Celebs not wanting to talk, this is better!" A second said: "More of these walks rather than interviews with overly entitled celebrities who haven't a clue where they are."

Brundle has previously explained that he's not contracted to conduct grid walks at every race on the calendar. He told The Telegraph: “For 20 years – whether ITV, BBC or Sky – my contract has said I’ll do three out of every four races I attend.

“Barcelona was just one of my weekends off. So I walked up and down the grid without a camera and saw 20 interesting things, which is great because you need fresh material. Let's be honest, how many different ways can you run up and down the grid.”
