Eddie Jordan asks if Lewis Hamilton is loved at Mercedes and tips Ferrari move

F1 icon and former team owner Eddie Jordan is the latest expert to link Lewis Hamilton with a shock move to championship rivals Ferrari in his pursuit of an eighth world title.

The 38-year-old has won six world championship crowns in eight years since joining the Silver Arrows in 2013 – but hasn't won the title in two seasons and looks far from challenging again this year. Hamilton is in the final year of his contract with Mercedes but insisted he is 'not a quitter' despite having an 'unstable' car at last weekend's Saudi Arabia Grand Prix.

Jordan who ran his own team in F1 for 14 years has tipped Hamilton to make a shock move to Italian giants Ferrari.

"Formula 1 needs Lewis Hamilton in a Ferrari and Ferrari needs Lewis Hamilton," Jordan told' OLBG.

"Hamilton should look to go to another championship-winning team, but the drama is who is going to move aside? Red Bull would not let Sergio Perez for Hamilton because they try to encourage drivers who have been through their teams to try and reach the top like Max Verstappen did.

"Hamilton is a McLaren man, but I can't see him going back there because of the position they're in. The only other places I see Hamilton going is Ferrari or staying at Mercedes."

This comes after Sky Sports presenter Simon Lazenby said that Hamilton's desperation for an eighth world title could take him to the Italian giants.

Hamilton was openly critical of the Mercedes W13 model last season as the British star went his first season in F1 without a Grand Prix win and finished sixth in the driver's championship.

The British legend has again showed his frustration this season stating that the Silver Arrows 'did not listen' to him over the development of this season's car. Jordan feels that Hamilton will be questioning if he is loved at the team despite bringing them almost a decade of success.

Jordan added: "At the moment, there's no contract signed and Toto Wolff said if he was Hamilton he would consider leaving. What would I be thinking if I was Hamilton, am I really loved here?

"What is actually happening at Mercedes? I'm not in the thick of things like I used to be. I don't know Wolff's point of view on the situation but I believe when he says he wants Hamilton to stay. But the Mercedes is not good enough for Hamilton."
