Senators’ Brady Tkachuk reacts to Kings’ Brendan Lemieux biting his hand: ‘Babies do that’
Things escalated quickly during a scuffle between Senators forward Brady Tkachuk and Kings forward Brendan Lemieux on Saturday night.
Late in the third period of the Kings’ 4-2 victory, Tkachuk and Lemieux got together after the whistle and earned double minors for roughing. As Tkachuk got up to skate toward the penalty box, he showed officials a bloodied hand and claimed that Lemieux bit him.
After a review, Lemieux was given a match penalty and ejected.
Tkachuk was still furious at Lemieux after the game.
“It was the most gutless thing somebody could ever do,” Tkachuk said, per Ottawa Sun columnist Bruce Garrioch. “This guy, you can ask anyone of his teammates, nobody ever wants to play with him, this guy is a bad guy and a bad teammate, he focuses on himself all the time.”
He continued his rant, saying, among other insults, that Lemieux is a “joke” and a “brickhead” and shouldn’t be in the NHL.
“Kids don’t even do that anymore. Babies do that,” Tkachuk said, per Garrioch.
Tkachuk will have extra time to recover. The Senators’ next game is Wednesday when they host the Canucks in Ottawa.
