Minnesota led for just three seconds as they completed the largest comeback in NFL history.

In what was an incredible start to the NFL’s first Saturday slate of this season, the Vikings clinched the NFC North title in shocking fashion, erasing a 33-0 defeat to triumph 39-36 at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Greg Joseph kicked a 40-yard field goal with seconds remaining to lift the Purple People Eaters to 11-3.

With 1:41 remaining in overtime, Minnesota took over on its own 18-yard line and drove to the Indianapolis 22-yard line to set up Joseph’s try.

Indianapolis stunningly led by five scores at the half but surrendered 14 points in the third and 22 in the fourth. Before a decisive three points sealed their fate in overtime.

Justin Jefferson (C) and Dalvin Cook (R) were central to the Minnesota Vikings’ overtime win

Cook scampered for a 64-yard TD on a screen pass in the fourth quarter to tie the game up

Make no mistake, Minnesota had to work for it. Regulation was not enough to separate the wildly inconsistent teams.

All signs pointed to a blowout early, with a blocked punt touchdown the beginning of what looked like the end for the Vikes.

The home team’s first half consisted of: blocked punt TD, fumble, turnover on downs, punt, pick six, punt and a kneel-down to the end the half.

Whatever Kevin O’Connell said to his team at halftime clearly worked, but not initially.

Minnesota punched its ticket and will make its first playoff appearance since the ’19 season

Vikings fans were treated to an early Christmas present in the form of the stunning victory

The Vikings offense went three-and-out on their first drive of the third, losing eight yards in total.

Three consecutive touchdown drives drew them within range at the beginning of the final quarter before a Kirk Cousins touchdown pass to Adam Thielen made the scores 36-28.

Parity still seemed distant bit a faltering Colts offense and a Dalvin Cook 64-yard expression of genius saw the reach 36-36, by way of a successful two-point conversion.

Ultimately. the franchise which most needed the result was able to get it done in the critical moment.
