Tom Brady’s parents have spoken about their “harrowing experience” of battling Covid ahead of their son’s tenth Super Bowl. Tom Brady Sr. contracted the virus in the beginning of September and admitted “I’m thankful I’m here” after he was admitted into hospital.
Speaking on NFL Network’s ‘NFL GameDay Morning’, Brady Sr. and his wife Galynn recounted their experiences.
“We thought we were taking a lot of [precautions],” Brady Sr. said. “Unfortunately it didn’t prove to be that way.
“We were both coughing and not feeling great so I stopped at an urgent care center. Within about 45 minutes, the doctor called me and said ‘you’re positive.’
“The next day, I couldn’t breathe. We walked into the hospital and that was the last time that I saw her for 18 days.

“I had pneumonia as well as Covid. They were pumping me with oxygen and if your lungs don’t absorb the oxygen then we’re gonna have to put you on the ventilator.
“It was a harrowing experience.
“I’m thankful I’m here, to be honest with you.
Galynn then added: “Every day it was waiting for the doctor to call and it was like ‘he’s in stable condition,’ and I hated that word stable. It was just so unnerving.”

Brady Sr. continued: “Galynn is going through it at home to a lesser degree but a severe degree.
“This is right in the beginning of September so when the season started, I had no interest whatsoever in winning or losing.
“I just was interested in taking the next breath. Tom was calling us, he was facetiming me”.
Galynn added: “I think he called the hospital every morning. His dad is his hero so I know he was worried.”
The family will be reunited during Super Bowl LV, with Brady Sr. saying: “That’s one of the grateful benefits of this weekend for us.
“To get together with our family that we haven’t been able to give hugs and kisses to for a year, and root for the Buccaneers.”
