Even AFC East rivalries can be set aside in the name of goodwill, as Buffalo Bills fans proved since a division foe’s quarterback went down with a concussion.

Thousands of Bills fans have donated to Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa’s charity after he suffered a concussion on Thursday, according to the Buffalo News.

That injury came after he was assessed for a concussion in the Bills’ first meeting with Miami just a few days prior.

When the Dolphins and Bills played on September 25th, Tagovailoa was seen stumbling on the field and being helped off it into a medical tent then to the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion. Tua was then sent back out onto the field, where he played the rest of the game that his Dolphins won 21-19.

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa suffered an injury against the Bills two Sundays ago, but after being evaluated for a concussion, he was controversially sent back onto the field

The decision to sent Tagovailoa back out onto the field is under immense scrutiny. An independent neurological expert has been fired by the NFL Players Association after he said Tua was good to go back into the game.

On Thursday night’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Tagovailoa went down with a concussion once again, requiring him to be rushed to the hospital.

NFLPA officials are still conducting an investigation into how Miami handled the concussion protocol set out by the league.

Bills fans responded by flooding the Dolphins passer’s charity with small amounts of donations, such as $21.19 – the game’s final score. Others included $17.01 – a combination of Bills QB Josh Allen’s number (17) and Tagovailoa’s number (1).

Just four days later in a game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Tua suffered another concussion

He was taken off the field and was rushed to a local hospital, but returned to Miami that night

According to the charity’s website, the Tua Foundation is, ‘dedicated to the support of youth initiatives, health and wellness, and other charitable causes.’

This isn’t the first time Bills fans have banded together to donate to the charity of an opposing player.

Last season, when Lamar Jackson of the Ravens suffered a concussion, Bills fans donated about $150,000 to his preferred charity back in Jackson’s former college town of Louisville.

When the Bills snapped their 17 year playoff drought back in 2017, they did so because Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton led a game winning drive against the Baltimore Ravens, securing Buffalo a postseason spot. Bills fans responded by donating over $400k to Dalton’s charity. Dalton repaid their generosity by taking a portion of those proceeds and donating it back to a Buffalo cancer center.
