NEW ORLEANS – Taysom Hill powered and spun his way through at least five missed tackles by the New York Giants for an 8-yard touchdown run Sunday to give the New Orleans Saints a 14-7 lead early in the third quarter.
Hill took the shotgun snap and ran through heavy traffic in the middle, powering through at least three defenders including linebacker Tae Crowder and defensive lineman Austin Johnson. Then he slipped into the open field to shake off cornerback Adoree’ Jackson and spin away from cornerback James Bradberry.
Hill has reverted back to his familiar do-everything role in New Orleans as a read-option quarterback/running back/tight end/receiver after he lost out to Jameis Winston in this summer’s starting QB battle.
Last week, Hill helped the Saints clinch a win at New England with a fourth-quarter TD run. This week. He provided a needed boost after the Saints offense was sagging a bit in the first half.
Winston provided a boost of his own two plays earlier with a 58-yard completion to receiver Marquez Callaway on the first play of the second half.
