The Super Bowl halftime show is one of the most watched musical performances of the year. This year, five hip hop stars will be taking the slot which has previously been filled by the Rolling Stones, Prince and Beyonce – to name just a few. What time is the halftime show on in the UK?

The Super Bowl might be the most important day of the American sports calendar year, but not everyone is tuning in for the sport.

In the special extra-long halftime show, a spectacular musical performance takes place to mark the occasion of Super Bowl Sunday.

Many Americans, as well as sports fans around the globe, will gather with friends and family to watch the match or host a Super Bowl party.

This year, viewers can look forward to some truly iconic guests, as the Super Bowl halftime show hosts hip hop royalty.

What time is the halftime show in the UK?

This year, the football teams battling it out for the most prestigious title in the NFL are the Cincinnati Bengals and the LA Rams.

The match is being played in Los Angeles, kicking off at 3.30pm, US time.

To watch the match live in the UK, it will be kicking off at 11.30pm on Sunday evening.

The timings can’t be exact due to what happens on the pitch in the fateful showdown, but the halftime show should begin at around 1am on Monday morning.

To ensure you don’t miss a moment of the halftime show, you’ll want to tune in a little earlier.

The match, including the halftime show, will be broadcast on BBC One.

Who is performing in this year’s Super Bowl halftime show?

This year, five members of hip hop royalty are taking to the stage, including some homegrown West Coast artists.

A teaser for the halftime show confirmed the five artists taking part as: Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J Blige, Eminem and Kendrick Lamar.

The talented collective have a combined 43 Grammy awards and 19 No. 1 Billboard albums between them, according to Sports Illustrated.

Rap icon and producer Dr Dre confirmed he was taking part via Twitter, the star who shot to fame in NWA before releasing his debut solo album The Chronic and going on to produce and feature on many more classic tracks.

One of the careers Dr Dre launched was that of Snoop Dogg, who will be performing alongside him at the Super Bowl.

Eminem, another of Dre’s collaborators, will be taking to the stage too.

One of the best-selling musicians of all time, Eminem rose to prominence in the 2000s and is widely regarded as one of the best rappers of all time, but has confessed he finds the prospect of the halftime show “nerve-wracking”.

Supplying some unmistakably smooth vocals will be R&B superstar and actress Mary J Blige.

The youngest of the five hip hop stars, California-born Kendrick Lamar will be appearing on the halftime stage.

Lamar’s lyricism and unmistakable style has been credited with influencing a whole new movement within hip hop since his debut in 2012.
