NFL Twitter reacts to Jameis Winston workout video: ‘So frustrating to watch’
Even when he’s not actively playing, Jameis Winston is a walking content generator. The latest such example of that came on Tuesday after a video leaked on Twitter of the Saints quarterback going through a pocket drill.
In the video, Winston seems to be traversing an imaginary pocket and avoiding contact with training dummies while keeping the ball high enough to where trainer Otis Leverette can’t knock it out of his grasp. Though it appeared a tad clumsy, Winston to his credit did not drop the ball once.
It makes sense that Winston, the former No. 1 pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, would try to work on limiting his turnovers. The former Buccaneers quarterback fumbled at least six times every season as a starter in Tampa Bay, fumbling the ball 15 and 12 times in 2017 and ’19, respectively. That’s on top of his interceptions, of which he threw 88 in just five seasons. That includes a whopping 30 in 2019, his final season with the Bucs.
Those aren’t the type of numbers the Saints are looking for in replacing Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees. So it makes sense Winston would put in the offseason work as he attempts to wrest the starting quarterback position from heir apparent Taysom Hill.
That said, Winston’s awkwardness in the video invites plenty of criticism, valid or otherwise. And Twitter is rarely willing to pass up an opportunity to react. With that, here are some of the more notable reactions to Winston’s workout video:
