Kirk Cousins explains confusing sideline exchange with Mike Zimmer, clarifies ‘celebration’
Someone, apparently, didn’t like that.
Kirk Cousins is a fairly passionate dude, as is well documented and noted throughout his career. Sunday’s 19-17 Vikings walk-off win offered another piece of footage to add to the Cousins archive, with the quarterback and Mike Zimmer sharing an interesting moment following the game.
Once Greg Joseph’s kick hit the net and gave Minnesota the win, Cousins grabbed Mike Zimmer and appeared to shout something in his face. Zimmer grabbed back, and pushed Cousins away, leading to another Minnesota staffer to look concerned for his head coach and grabbing him by the waist.
But, no harm, no foul: The quarterback explained the exchange following the game, via ESPN’s Courtney Cronin, saying it was nothing more than a celebration between the two.
“Oh, I was just celebrating with him,” Cousins said. “I was just fired up.”
And fired up he was: Ben Goessling of the Star Tribune said that Cousins also dropped his signature, “You like that?” catchphrase in Zimmer’s face.
The Vikings escaped with a 17-16 win over the Lions, heading to 2-3 on the season. They visit the Panthers in Week 6. If they win, someone may want to put Zimmer in bubble wrap.
