Jaguars’ Urban Meyer apologizes to team, family after raunchy video surfaces
What happens in Ohio, stays in Ohio? Not quite.
Video and photos of Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer surfaced over the weekend, with the Jaguars head coach caught in a, shall we say, compromised position with a younger girl at a bar.
It was really something that was awkward and best reserved for a high school homecoming dance. It’s not something you’d really see from an 0-4 NFL head coach.
On Monday, Meyer revealed he was the man in the video, and said he apologized to the team, including owner Shad Khan, the players and others for being a distraction. His explanation, though, was a bit weird. Here’s all of Meyer’s statement:
I just apologized to the team and the staff for being a distraction. Just stupid. So I explained everything that happened and owned it. Just stupid. I should not have myself in that kind of position.
I stayed to see the grandkids, and we all went to dinner that night at the restaurant. There was a big group next to our restaurant and they wanted me to come over and take pictures, and I did. They were trying to pull me out on the dance floor, screwing around and I should have left. …
I apologized again for being a distraction. A coach should not be a distraction. Of course I did (apologize to my family). That’s not me. They were upset.
That, unfortunately for Meyer, wasn’t the end of things. Soon after his apology hit the newswire, another video of Meyer surfaced; This time the Jaguars coach could have been flagged for getting a bit handsy with the same girl at the bar.
(Editor’s note: Slightly NSFW.)
Meyer’s timeline of events are as follows: Thursday night, the Jaguars lose to the Bengals on a last-second kick. Friday night, he goes out to dinner with grandkids, and stays out to party with people he (seemingly) knows.
Meyer’s wife, Shelley, tweeted in response to Meyer heading out on Friday night, as she was home babysitting while the coach spent time with friends in the bar.
Whether or not the party was a planned event or impromptu visit with fans is more than a bit murky, given the tweets and Meyer’s statement on Monday.
Meyer said that the group “tried to get him on the dance floor.” Clearly, he was looking to tango.
