Grey Cup halftime show 2021: Start time, performers for CFL championship

The 108th Grey Cup takes place on Sunday, Dec. 12 and showcases the winners from the Canadian Football League’s East and West divisions.

The Grey Cup is one of the most anticipated Canadian sporting events each year. On top of the CFL game taking place, the Grey Cup holds other events in Hamilton, Ontario, including hosting a halftime performance. The halftime show at the Grey Cup began in 1990, and it has taken place every year since, except for 2020 when the Grey Cup was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year’s halftime headliner is Canadian band Arkells, along with special guest The Lumineers. Here’s what you need to know about the halftime performances during the 2021 Grey Cup.

Who is headlining the halftime show at the 2021 Grey Cup?

This year’s Grey Cup halftime show headliner is Canadian band Arkells. Coincidentally, Arkells originated in Hamilton, Ontario, which is where the Grey Cup takes place. So, this performance is a homecoming for the band.

Arkells is a popular band in Canada, but they haven’t reached as much international success. The halftime performers for the Grey Cup tend to be Canadian, though, or at least are pretty popular in Canada.

Additionally, The Lumineers will perform at the halftime show. The Lumineers are originally from Denver, Co., and they are most known for their 2012 hit “Ho Hey.”

What time does the Grey Cup halftime show start?

The Grey Cup will begin at 6:00 p.m. ET, meaning the halftime show should begin around 7:30 p.m. ET, although that is not for certain. Typically halftime shows begin 90 minutes after the game starts.

Who is Arkells?

Arkells is a band made up of five members: singer and guitarist Max Kerman, singer and guitarist Mike DeAngelis, bassist Nick Dika, drummer Tim Oxford and singer, keyboardist and guitarist Anthony Carone.

Arkells released their debut album back in 2008, and they have since come out with five additional albums. Their most recent release was their sixth studio album called “Blink Once” on Sept. 21 of this year. Their top single from that album is “You Can Get It,” which they will most likely be performing on Sunday.

They won the Juno Award for Best Group for the fourth time this year. The Juno Awards are Canada’s equivalent of the Grammy’s. The group has 14 Juno awards total.
