‘Fire Nagy’ chants erupt at Bulls game as Bears fans voice frustration with coach after five straight losses
It seems as though anywhere there are Bears fan, there’s growing frustration with Matt Nagy.
Nagy has been booed and criticized both in the friendly confines of Soldier Field and on social media, but Monday night that criticism extended to another Chicago sports venue — the United Center, home of the Bulls.
With the Bears at 3-7 and coming off their fifth straight loss, fans in the United Center began very audible “Fire Nagy” chants with just over nine minutes to go in Bulls’ game against the Pacers.
The Bears have never fired a coach midseason, but a loss to the currently winless Lions on Thursday might expedite things and make those fans’ wishes come true. Chicago, despite Nagy being an offensive-minded head coach, ranks last in the NFL in passing offense, 30th in first downs and 31st in total yards.
Rookie quarterback Justin Fields has also underwhelmed in his eight games as a starter. He’s completed just 58.1 percent of his passes, has just four touchdowns to eight interceptions and averages just 136.1 yards per game.
At various points this year, Nagy has given up play-calling duties, freaked out over his headset not working and even as recently as Monday continued his uncertainty about who the team’s starting quarterback is between Andy Dalton and Fields when both are healthy.
The Bears’ schedule doesn’t get any easier after Thursday’s tilt with the Lions as they take on the Packers and Cardinals immediately after, giving the Bears other opportunities to let Nagy go should they win on Thanksgiving.
