Cowboys add veteran T.Y. Hilton to WR corps
The Dallas Cowboys announced Monday they have signed veteran wide receiver T.Y. Hilton to a contract.
Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
The 33-year-old Hilton’s arrival comes a week after the Cowboys met with free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. A source told ESPN’s Ed Werder last week that the Cowboys had concerns after Beckham’s physical that his recovery from a torn left ACL in the Super Bowl has not progressed enough to ensure he would play before mid-January
Hilton, who had contemplated retirement before deciding if he wanted to play an 11th season, saw his production continue to slip with the Indianapolis Colts in 2021, catching only 23 passes for 331 yards and three touchdowns as he saw action in only 10 games.
He missed the first five games of last season because of a disk injury that occurred late in training camp in August, and he missed two other games during the season because of a quadriceps injury and a concussion. After missing a total of just two games in his first six NFL seasons with the Colts, Hilton has now missed 16 games over the last four seasons due to an assortment of injuries.
Hilton spent the majority of his 10 seasons as the Colts’ No. 1 receiver, including a stretch where he had at least 1,000 yards receiving in five of six seasons.
His best season came in 2016, when the four-time Pro Bowl selection had 91 receptions for 1,448 yards and six touchdowns.
Overall, Hilton has 631 catches for 9,691 receiving yards, which ranks seventh among all active players, and 54 total touchdowns.
