Broncos Briefs: Right guard Graham Glasgow agrees to re-structured 2022 contract – The Denver Post
Limited to seven games in 2021 because of a heart issue and knee and ankle injuries, Broncos right guard Graham Glasgow has agreed to take a $5.9 million pay cut for ’22, according to a league source who provided the re-structured contract to The Denver Post.
Glasgow’s new base salary of $3.1 million becomes fully guaranteed after the fifth day of the ’22 league year (mid-March). He also had $700,000 worth of per-game and workout bonuses removed from the contract.
The new deal, basically a two-year, $14.1 million pact, lowers Glasgow’s salary cap number this coming season from $11.7 million to $7.1 million.
Glasgow can earn back part of the paycut if he meets playing-time incentives — $250,000 if he plays 50% of the Broncos’ offensive snaps, $500,000 for 60%, $1 million for 70%, $1.2 million for 80% and $1.4 million for 90%.
Signed as a free agent in March 2020, Glasgow played 13 games in his first year with the Broncos.
In the ’21 season opener at the New York Giants, he left the stadium via ambulance because of an irregular heartbeat and was kept overnight in a New Jersey hospital. After sitting out one game, he returned to play in Week 3 against the New York Jets but sustained a knee injury.
Glasgow missed the Week 4 loss to Baltimore but played every snap in the next four games. On the final play of the first half against Dallas in Week 9, he sustained a season-ending broken ankle.
The Broncos have two starting options for Glasgow: Right guard or center.
If the team’s preference is to keep Quinn Meinerz at right guard, Glasgow can return to center, where he started 16 games for Detroit in 2018. Or they could flip Meinerz to center and keep Glasgow at right guard.
Ten candidates. The Broncos filed two more head-coaching interview requests with the league office on Tuesday, bringing the total to 10 candidates to replace Vic Fangio: Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator Luke Getsy and Cincinnati offensive coordinator Brian Callahan.
Getsy, 37, coached at five college programs before joining Packers coach Mike McCarthy’s staff in 2014 as a quality control coach (2014-15) and receivers coach (2016-17). After a year as Mississippi State’s offensive coordinator, he returned to the Packers as quarterbacks coach for Matt LaFleur.
The Broncos on Monday requested to interview Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. Because the Packers have a first-round playoff bye, Hackett and Getsy are available for interviews later this week.
Callahan, 37, was on the Broncos’ coaching staff from 2010-15, followed by quarterback coaching posts with Detroit (2016-17) and the Raiders (’18) before getting his first coordinator shot with Cincinnati in ’19. The Bengals improved from 4-11-1 to 10-7 and the AFC North title. They host Las Vegas in a first-round playoff game Saturday.
