After officially becoming playoff bound, the homeward bound Cincinnati Bengals were forced to make an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City.

The plane ‘had a failing engine, so they landed at JFK and are changing planes,’ said WLWT’s Mark Slaughter.

Slaughter says a person on board the plane said the flight became, ‘a little rough but it was okay! Landed safely.’

The team took off from T.F. Green Airport just south of Providence, Rhode Island at 7:40pm, according to Flightradar24. The plane had passed over all of Connecticut before diverting course and turning south just north of Kingston, New York.

Their plane continued flying, cutting over the southern tip of Manhattan and landed at JFK around 8:26pm local time.

According to Flightradar24, the team is set to depart for Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport around 11:00pm ET and landing just before 1:00am in Ohio.

The plane took off from Rhode Island and made it as far as the Hudson River before landing 

It was a chaotic ending to a trip that saw Joe Burrow throw three touchdowns in a victory

Earlier in the day, the Bengals handled the New England Patriots 22-18 in Foxborough – with that win officially clinching them a playoff spot.

QB Joe Burrow completed 40 passes on 52 attempts, earning 375 yards and tossing three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Their final two games of the season come against the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football and then the Baltimore Ravens on January 8.
