The New York Jets offensive coordinator has been hailed by Aaron Rodgers, after the quarterback revealed he intends to play under him next season. After weeks of silence, Rodgers made his standard appearance on the Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday and discussed his immediate NFL future.
Rodgers claimed that the Green Bay Packers do not want him back, and that he intends to line-up for the Jets next season.
He has been linked to the Jets for some time, but speculation heightened when they hired former Packers coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. Rodgers also revealed that Hackett joining the Jets helped make his decision, but to suggest that he was fired with him in mind offended the quarterback.
Should Rodgers join the Jets, he will reunite with former coach Hackett – someone who he has loved working with throughout his career. And that looks to be a real possibility following his appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, as he said: “Since Friday my intention is to play for the New York Jets. I made it clear I wanted to play and play for the New York Jets.”
Rodgers also stated why he found the Jets an attractive franchise, as he said: “There’s a lot of reasons as to why the Jets are attractive, but there’s one coach who’s meant as much to me as any coach that I’ve ever had – and he happens to be the offensive coordinator there. It didn’t matter at the time, for sure, there was interest from them and many other teams.”
But Rodgers was furious with speculation that the Jets hired Hackett purely to secure the Packers quarterback, and has taken great offense to any suggestion. “But if there is any offense I’m going to take today, it’s to that,” Rodgers added.

“Anybody that knows Nathaniel knows that he brings a lot of energy, a lot of fun, he’s an incredible teacher of the game especially in the quarterback position. For people to say that was done in an attempt to lure me, it’s a total disservice to Nathaniel Hackett and what he’s accomplished.
“He’s not just a f****** great human, but a great coach too. Also, for them to do that just to lure me is a great disrespect to that organisation in general, and a disservice to Hackett.”
Rodgers won the MVP award under Hackett, and he claimed at the end of the regular season that he’s going to do everything in his power to win one more. Should that be at the Jets, they could be on for a sensational season.
