Zimbabwe beat Pakistan after ‘Pak Bean’ row as president sends trolling message

President of Zimbabwe Emmerson Mnangagwa has waded into the most bizarre rivalry in sport.

The African national just about overcame Pakistan in the T20 World Cup in a Super 12 game on Thursday. They resolutely defended 130 to prevent the Shaheens from recording their first points of the tournament, winning by a solitary run.

However, this result was a lot sweeter as an unexpected rivalry has since blossomed between the two countries, after a Zimbabwe fan posted about a time when a Pakistani Mr Bean impersonator masqueraded as Rowan Atkinson's beloved character. And just when things could not get any stranger, President Mnangagwa has also joined in on the action.

After his country secured the win, Mnangagwa rubbed extra salt in the wounds of Pakistan. “What a win for Zimbabwe,” he began on Twitter.

“Congratulations to the Chevrons. Next time, send the real Mr Bean.” The politician is referring to when one of his fellow countrymen rages about a time when he thought he was going to meet Mr Bean in real life.

Atkinson’s iconic character was advertised as the special guest for the Harare Agricultural Show in 2016, prompting excitement, joy, and the attendance of many other Mr Bean lovers. Unfortunately, all of the guests were left disappointed, and perhaps, very confused, as Pakistani comedian Asif Muhammad donned the iconic grey suit and red tie and pretended to be Mr Bean.

"As Zimbabweans we wont forgive you…you once gave us that Fraud Pak Bean instead of Mr Bean Rowan ..we will settle the matter tomorrow just pray the rains will save you…#ZIMVSPAK," wrote the rather upset fan on social media.

"Because your fraud bean duped us using rral bean's pictures claiming to be the one only to find out when he landed at the airport. OMG he is just Mr Bean on a low budget". This incident has since resulted in a fresh rivalry between Zimbabwe and Pakistan.

Zimbabwe take on Bangladesh in their next match, having seen off their new fierce rivals, before taking on the Netherlands and a mighty India side expected to go deep into the tournament.
