The Brits suffered a double whammy on the official opening day of the Winter Olympics with two Short Track Speed Skaters crashing out in their heats. Kathryn Thomson is Great Britain’s most experienced short track speed skater and booked up for all three events at this year’s Games.
She was unable to medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics, but had her eyes set on making amends this time around.
But her first opportunity came and went on Saturday after competing in the 500m women’s heats.
Thomson crashed out on the very first corner and clearly looked furious at one competitor in particular.
Speaking after the race, Thomson felt that she was impeded by her Polish competitor.
“I’m quite frustrated – to be taken down in the first half lap is quite disappointing but I’ve got two more distances so I’m just going to reset and refocus for them.
“I haven’t watched it back yet but it felt like the Polish girl pushed my leg down, I don’t think it was intentional.”
