Similar to the first game on ESPN from Wednesday’s 13-game NBA slate, where the Heat host the Bucks, both these West Coast teams enter this matchup on two completely different ends of the spectrum.
The Warriors are tied for the best record in the league at 20-4 and are owners of the league’s best defense. Meanwhile, the Trail Blazers have lost six of their last seven games and are ranked 30th, last in the league for defensive rating.
Led by early MVP favourite Stephen Curry, who is averaging a career-high in 3-pointers made at 5.5 per game, the Warriors have absolutely dominated the league. Owners of the league’s best net rating , largely in part to their defense, Golden State ranks in the top 3 of major offensive categories like points per game (113.6, 3rd) , assists (29.0, 1st), field goal percentage (47.6%, 2nd) and 3-point percentage (37.6%, 3rd).
This game is the Warriors’ final contest at the Chase Center before they begin a road-heavy schedule ahead. After playing the Trail Blazers, they take off for a five-game road trip which is part of a stretch where they play only five of 19 games at home.
On the other hand, the Trail Blazers have their hands full with issues to deal with. This game comes just a few days after the franchise parted ways with Neil Olshey, their General Manager and President of Basketball Operations.
On the court, the team will suit up for this one without their starting backcourt of Damian Lillard, having missed the past four games, and CJ McCollum, who didn’t travel with the team after a recent CT scan revealed a pneumothorax (collapsed right lung).
