Tennis stars and the football teams they support – including two Spurs fans

Football and tennis aren't two sports that have a lot in common – aside from the urge to perform keepie-ups with a tennis ball.

However, like most of the planet, those who step onto the court do have an interest in the beautiful game, with some even wearing their favourite club's shirt to tournaments. And as the who's who of tennis start to arrive at Wimbledon, Daily Star Sport has a closer look at who they support.

From two long-suffering Tottenham fans to one star who supports German giants Bayern Munich, there is no shortage of variety when it comes to football on the tennis circuit.

Emma Raducanu – Tottenham Hotspur

Well, Tottenham fans can start to claim the 2021 US Open title as a victory for Spurs with Emma Raducanu admitting she has a soft spot for the Lilywhites.

Spurs fans were sent into meltdown on social media when the Brit appeared in Stuttgart with a 'Raducanu 10' Tottenham shirt. She admitted: "My whole team basically are big Spurs fans. I feel like they're egging me on and desperately trying to get me behind.

"I don't necessarily follow football so much but I feel now, because of them, some sort of connection…"I loved following the Euros last year, watching Harry Kane the England captain, and Son [Heung-min], I'm a big fan of his as well!"

Rafael Nadal – Real Madrid

Okay Rafael Nadal you can hit a tennis ball quite well, but, come on, support your local team.

Nadal hails from the small Spanish island of Mallorca, but it wasn't Real Mallorca who captured his heart. Nor was it Barcelona, for whom his uncle played and he was once a mascot in his younger days.

Instead, it was the Spanish giants Real Madrid that earned his support. Nadal explained: "Despite adoring my uncle, I have always been and always will be a Real Madrid fan. Why? Simple. Because my father is."

Andy Murray – Hibernian

Andy Murray's choice of football club has been disputed down the years, with the Scotsman, with some tongue and cheek, claiming to support Arsenal and Barcelona at times.

However, his team is certainly Hibernian – who his Grandad once played for. "It does help, you get used to losing a lot at a young age," Murray once joked, "Our family all supported Hibs because my grandfather had played for them, and we'd all go along and watch them together.

"I'd have been six or seven at my first game but I don't really remember it. My dad told me that I used to cry whenever Hibs scored because the crowd was so loud. I don't cry at football anymore!"

Roger Federer – Basel

There was only ever going to be one team that captured the heart of Swiss superstar Roger Federer: FC Basel.

Federer will have a lot more time these days to watch his beloved Basel, after the veteran finally called it a day. He said: "Whoever grows up in Basel is an FCB fan! I lived in Munchenstein, it was not that far away from our football pitch.

"When I was travelling all the time on the tennis circuit, I could not be there so much. I want to let know people who wear my favourite football shirt that I am always behind them."

Nick Kyrgios – Tottenham Hotspur

Nick Kyrgios loves his basketball, and he's made no secret about his affection for the sport. However, when it comes to football, it's Tottenham that has captured his support.

Kyrgios shocked fans last summer when he was snapped in a Spurs shirt. Speaking in 2014, he said: "Whenever Spurs are playing, I try to watch them, even with the time difference in Australia.

"The last match I watched was about 2am in the morning! It was awesome seeing the players and the training facility – I've never seen anything like it before."

Alexander Zverev – Bayern Munich

This one might be a tough read: Alexander Zverev claims to support two teams.

The German was born in Hamburg, and has admitted to supporting his local side, but he also has a soft spot for Bayern Munich thanks to Oliver Kahn. "I have two favourite clubs. Internationally, at the high level, it's always been FC Bayern. My first shirt was of FC Bayern, Oliver Kahn's.

"As a Hamburg native, I'm also a HSV fan. FC Bayern is the biggest club in the world and the one that I follow the most"
