Tennis star produces ‘shot of the year’ with outrageous no-look backhand
Brazilian tennis star Ingrid Martins left fans in awe after pulling off an incredible no-look backhand shot.
The 26-year-old pulled off what has been dubbed the “shot of the year” in a round-of-16 doubles match against Alexandra Panova and Ulrikke Eikeri.
Martins and her Belarusian partner Lidziya Marozava won the match 4-6, 6-3, 12-10, though viewers were less concerned with the outcome and more fascinated by one outstanding moment which is unlikely to be bettered for the rest of the year.
Marozava had just returned a ferocious serve when it appeared Eikeri would capitalise by finishing a simple put-away by the net. But Martins, having turned the wrong way initially to return the shot, swung her racket behind her back and sent the ball over the net.

Her miraculous shot was exquisitely placed beyond Panova’s reach as the crowd cheered the point. Panova herself applauded while Marozava couldn’t help but giggle and high-five her teammate.
Meanwhile, fans on social media responded by gushing over the world no.73’s sublime shot.
