Tennis hothead Daniil Medvedev kicks TV camera in "broken hand" rant

Daniil Medvedev was involved in another angry on-court exchange with an umpire on Saturday, this time after running into a TV camera which was placed near the court.

The Russian needed medical assistance on his left hand (thankfully not his strong side) before returning to the court during the second set.

At the time of the hot-tempered incident, Medvedev was a set to the good- but was unable to replicate his impressive form from the rest of the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati to win the match and proceed to the final.

Instead, fellow Russian Andrey Rublev came back to win 2-6 6-3 6-3, beating the world number 2 for the first time in their careers.

After Medvedev crashed in the court-side apparatus, he was visibly and audibly fuming. He kicked away the camera before yelling at the umpire that the collision "could have broken my hand".

His mood will no doubt have been worsened by the eventual result.

Medvedev has a history of similar outbursts, the most recent of which came at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

During his third round encounter with Fabio Fognini in the singles tournament, Medvedev could again be heard shouting at the officials about the oppressive temperatures that the two men were playing in.

Is Medvedev wrong for shouting at the umpire? Let us know in the comments.

Clearly struggling with the heat in a break between games, the umpire asked if he was okay to continue – to which Medvedev replied: "I'm a fighter, I will finish the match, but I can die.

"If I die, is the ITF (International Tennis Federation) going to take responsibility?"

Medvedev's loss means that he will not be in the final in Cincinnati despite entering the tournament as the top seed. Likewise, the second-seeded player Stefanos Tsitsipas failed to reach the marquee match after he too lost his semi-final with Alexander Zverev.

Zverev takes on Rublev in the final on Sunday evening.
