Stuart Broad still isn’t his cheeky pop star WAG’s favourite England cricketer

Stuart Broad is the toast of English cricket after ending his glorious career by bowling his side to a series-levelling win over Australia – but he still isn’t his partner’s favourite player.

Having announced his decision to retire from all cricket following the fifth Ashes Test at the Oval, Broad took the final two Australian wickets to secure a 49-run victory as a thrilling series ended in a 2-2 draw. In typical style, Broad had also hit his final ball as a batter for six.

The 37-year-old was cheered on during his final day as a cricketer by his family and friends, including his partner Mollie King, The Saturdays singer and Radio 1 presenter.

However, it turns out King is a bigger fan of another of the Oval heroes, seamer Chris Woakes, who got England back into the game by removing three of the Aussies’ top four, including Steve Smith.

Writing in his recent column for the Daily Mail, Broad revealed that King is a big fan of Woakes.

“Woakesy’s just an amazing cricketer. Mollie told me he was her favourite player, to which I replied: ‘What about me?’,” he said.

“She said: ‘You’re second.’ Thanks very much! But I understand where she’s coming from – especially as he must have had times over the past year when he wondered whether he would play for England again.”

However, during her beau’s final Test, King did take time to post a soppy message on Instagram, writing: “What a moment @stuartbroad – your last test! My darling, you’ve brought joy to so many cricketing fans all over the world, and especially to your family.
