Sir Mo Farah trafficking tell-all in documentary investigated by police
Offbeat news from the world of sport
The Metropolitan Police have opened an investigation into reports that Sir Mo Farah was illegally trafficked into the UK as a child.
The British Olympic hero had previously claimed that he moved to England with his parents as a refugee, only to unveil his true origin story in a powerful BBC documentary this week.
Farah was actually born Hussein Abdi Kahin, but adopted his new moniker (the identity of another child who never made it the UK) while being trafficked out of east Africa following the death of his father, and was forced to work as a domestic servant after arriving in London.

In a statement, the Met Police said: "We are aware of reports in the media concerning Sir Mo Farah. No reports have been made to the MPS (Metropolitan Police Service) at this time.
"Specialist officers have opened an investigation and are currently assessing the available information."
Following the revelations about Farah's past, the Home Office confirmed that it would not be taking any action against him, despite the fact he obtained his British citizenship illegally.

Farah said he eventually escaped his life of servitude after confiding in his PE teacher, and was later sent to live with the aunt of the 'real Mo Farah' – whom he met for the first time over over the phone during the programme.
Ahead of the broadcast, Farah said he created the documentary for his family, writing on Instagram: "I’m so proud have represented Great Britain and to achieved what I have as a GB athlete. But, my proudest achievement will always be being a husband and father to my amazing family.
"I did this documentary for them, so they could understand more about the experiences that led us to becoming the family we are today.
"Not every child will have the easiest start in life, but that doesn’t mean they can’t go on to achieve their dreams. I hope you’ll all watch later and I can’t wait to hear what you think."
