O’Sullivan eats pie and chips mid-match at World Snooker Championship
Ronnie O’Sullivan chilled out with pie, chips and mushy peas in-between sessions of his World Snooker Championship win over Pang Junxu on Saturday. The seven-time champion cruised through the first round at the Crucible and his mid-match relaxation techniques clearly helped.
O’Sullivan is aiming to win his eighth World Championship after triumphing in two of the last three years. He is level with Stephen Hendry on the most titles won in the modern era.
He was handed the task of overcoming Chinese qualifier Pang on the first morning of the event. O’Sullivan was leading 6-3 at the end of the first session.
Ahead of the resumption on Saturday, the 47-year-old told Eurosport what he got up to during the break. O’Sullivan said: “Yeah [I chilled out], just had pie, chips, mushy peas.

“Watched a bit of snooker, changed my shoelaces in my running trainers because I’ve got these nice little triathlon ones that I couldn’t be bothered to do at home, so I thought I’d bring them here because I had time on my hands. So yeah, just chilling out and back here for some more snooker.”
O’Sullivan was impressed with Pang, who clawed the score back during the evening session before the reigning champion saw out a 10-7 victory. O’Sullivan said of the 23-year-old: “I thought he played well, the guy, he was good, scored well, played with safety, he’s a very, very good player.
“He reached the final of the last tournament, the semis in Wales. We all know what a quality player he is. Tough, tough opponent.”

He said: “Yeah every match is a big match, that’s how you’ve got to look at it. You’ve got to win five big matches here but you’ve got to win the first one, you’ve got to try and win the second one, you’ve got to try and win the third, you’ve got to try and win the fourth, you’ve got to try and win the fifth, and then you’ve got to come and do it again next year.
“It’s just a tough tournament but yeah it’s just a pleasure to be a part of it.”
