NBA legend Dennis Rodman’s infamous Las Vegas bender set to be turned into movie

It was 48 hours in Vegas that threatened to derail the Chicago Bulls – and now it's going to be turned into a movie.

Dennis Rodman's impromptu two day trip to 'Sin City' during the 1998 NBA finals had long gone down in folklore before it was highlighted again in The Last Dance , the Netflix series that chronicles the rise of Michael Jordan and his team.

And now it is going to be turned into a movie in its own right. The film will be titled '48 Hours in Vegas' and Rodman is set to be an executive producer.

The Lionsgate Film will be based on Rodman's experiences and behaviour during the trip that took place as the Bulls were battling the Utah Jazz in a bid to secure a sixth NBA title in eight years. It is being written by Jordan VanDina and will include Phil Lord and Christopher Miller as producers.

Both during and after his basketball career Rodman, 60, was never far from controversy. Whether it was his much publicised alcohol issues, dating Madonna, or showing up in World Championship Wrestling without the permission of the Bulls, his off-court antics frequented headlines as much as his on-court displays.

And yet, he is widely considered as one of the best defensive players to have ever graced the NBA, which was why Bulls head coach Phil Jackson allowed him take a break in the middle of the finals – against the wishes of Jordan himself.

Famously, Rodman did not come back in the timeframe he said he would, causing both Jackson and Jordan to go to Vegas and track him down.

"There’s only one Dennis Rodman. In 1998, there was nobody on earth who’d be more fun – or maybe more dangerous – to party with. And yet that’s not even half of who he is,' said Nathan Kahane, president of Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group.

"This movie takes you on an unforgettable ride with the myth, the legend, and also the man that Dennis is, behind everything you think you know.

"His amazing career and life will make for an off-the-wall hilarious yet completely human and emotional movie. You think you know anything about ’The Worm’ ? (Rodman's nickname) Just you wait!" he added.

Despite Rodman's antics, the Bulls famously prevailed 4-2 against Utah – and it remains their last finals win to date.
